| "We should have Biblical Words for Biblical things" I've been taught this for years, however its slightly difficult to maintain. Think of those in Papua New Guinea. The place where I visited had no word in their language that paralleled "Love". How do you use a biblical word for that? In order to explain that concept in translation you have to do one of two things: 1.) use many words to try and replace it...or...2.) use a sub-par equivalent.........Translating the Bible from its 'original language' is not a cookie cutter process...even when translating into English So, my question is this...How can we use biblical words for biblical things when we don't have equivalent words from langauge to language? Yes, words mean something...yes words are important...how do we know which words are biblical and which words are not?...NIV?...NASB?...KJV?...Lexicons? What is important about the words? Is it the words or the message? Maybe you can tell me... | | |
